Convert WebP to JPG Online
Saved a WebP from the web and something will not open it? Convert it to JPG in your browser, with no upload and no daily limit.
Why Convert WebP to JPG?
Software that refuses WebP
Older Photoshop builds, many print shop uploaders, some CRM and e-commerce importers still reject WebP outright.
Photo printing
Print labs and kiosk machines accept JPG almost universally. WebP support is rare even in 2026.
Office documents
Inserting images into older Word, PowerPoint or Keynote versions is far more reliable with JPG.
Instant and private
WebP decoding is native to your browser, so the conversion happens locally with nothing uploaded.
WebP vs JPG, measured
This conversion is about compatibility, not size. At matched quality the two formats land within a few percent of each other on a photograph, so you are not paying much for the change. What you are buying is a file that opens in software older than 2020, and what you are giving up is transparency and animation.
| Measure | WebP | JPG |
|---|---|---|
| Photograph at matched quality | 1,006 KB | 983 KB |
| Size change on conversion | -- | roughly unchanged |
| Transparency | Yes | Flattened to white |
| Animation | Yes | No |
| Opens in pre-2020 software | Often not | Always |
| Accepted by print services | Rarely | Always |
WEBP at quality 92 and JPG via mozjpeg at quality 90, the settings at which both scored the same structural similarity against the master. Measured on one 3840 x 2160 (8.3 MP) photograph, decoded once and then encoded into each format from that same master, so neither format inherits the other's compression artifacts. Your own files will land on different numbers; the direction and rough scale of the gap is what carries over.
Questions
Why did I end up with a WebP file at all?
Most sites now serve WebP to save bandwidth, so right-clicking and saving an image gives you one. The file is fine, it is the receiving software that often has not caught up.
Will the JPG look worse than the WebP?
The JPG is written at quality 90 through mozjpeg, so the loss from this step is negligible. Any softness you notice was almost certainly already in the WebP, which is usually lossy itself.
What if the WebP has a transparent background?
JPG cannot store transparency, so those areas become white. If you need to keep the alpha channel, convert to PNG instead.
Does the file get uploaded anywhere?
No. WebP to JPG runs entirely in your browser and is not rate limited.
Can I convert an animated WebP?
Only the first frame is kept. Animated WebP becomes a single still JPG, since JPG has no animation support.
This one never leaves your device
Your browser does this conversion itself, with no upload and nothing counted against the daily limit. Close the tab mid-way and the file was never anywhere but your machine.
